Everyone,

I have attached a few videos and pictures of the Acela, this is just the base set as the additional cars have yet to ship.

One of the surprises, to me, are the clear doors at the end of the passenger cars (will have to look at them more closely later).  As for the front (2021) engine, the cover was already broken when I removed it from the wrapping which hopefully I can get serviced by Lionel shortly.

Enjoy!

How fast have you dared to go?

Honestly, I've taken it up to 180 on the Legacy Remote and only around the sections where if something did go badly it would still be on the table, otherwise 165 is the max.  The layout is a multi-year experiment and our future forever home will be selected in mind for a much larger train layout.

I've taken a couple more pictures to show the car leaning on an O72 curve and some more pictures of the interior end and lights if you open a door (step light and red roof light).

The videos are taken straight from my iPhone and are .mov files ....  They play perfectly fine for me with Windows 11.

As for the engineer, both the front and rear units appear to have the same male figurine.

sorry

what i meant was the engineer dialogue because the santa fe version has a female engineer that sounds like maybe Meagan did the voice

i was wondering did all the versions have the same character which i call Fenix Starr

i have windows 10 so yeah i guess i can't see the videos

Can we get some videos of the sounds?  I'd be interested to see if they kept the original real sounds.

Couple of difference I noted between this and my original.

1. Sounds seems different.  I ride the Acela all the time, so they are ingrained in my head.  When I heard my original it was like the real thing. Real recordings.  From what I heard in the video; it did not sound like it.  Can we get a video of all the sounds?

2.  Could be your camera's close up, but the paint seems to have a lot of metallic flake in it.  Mine is a more solid silver which matches the real train.

3.  How far apart are the cars?  They seemed to have a bigger gap between them.  Can we see the couplers?

4.  The real train DOES have glass doors, so that is more accurate/correct than my original which was just white plastic.

It all looks great, just want to see if they kept the original sound set.  Because it was perfect.

What was broken on delivery?  On the fence about ordering one but not in a mood for $2500 and broken upon arrival.  I had canceled my preorder based on multiple Lionel items arriving DOA or scratched and damaged.

Yes, it was broken on delivery; problems with the covers on both engines but the "front" engine wasn't even attached since the tabs were broken.  See separate thread here.

Let me get back to you on that....

I have attached photos taken with my regular camera instead of my iPhone to try and answer your questions...

The separation of the vestibule is ~3/16" and the separation from car-to-car is ~5/8" (don't have a picture of me holding the ruler trying to measure).  As for the paint it does sparkle depending upon how the light reflects.  Finally all the windows and doors are plastic and the doors between the cars do not function (at least the ones I checked).

Sorry, a complete misunderstanding there... The Engineer voice is indeed female.

In light of everyone having problems with the video (.mov files) I have opt'd to attach a couple audio recordings instead, again from my iPhone (so these are .m4a).

Dialog file contains "at rest" and then "running @ ~3 steps on the remote"; the tower talk button is now a randomly select crew talk.  The "medium running" is just that to show Aux1,2 reports the "speed" and finally "simply running" is just that.

The overhead pantograph sounds can be turned off according to the manual but I did not try....

I trust Lionel will take care of this.  All of my issues with Lionel quality were repaired, replaced, or in the case of the Pennsy S-1 returned.   Lionel service in my experience has been tough to reach at best but once in the pipeline they take care of it in a few months.

Nice train though.   I just have lost the energy to spend thousands and have out of the box hassle.

Man i'm getting major Fenix Transport vibes from this! Now i'm really sad i couldn't get the santa fe or polar one as my layout plan has a high speed line

i wish i had cash and im very jealous of those who got an acela

the female crew talk would be perfect for my scenarios as i have a character named Fenix Starr who drives high speed trains like this. i made this meme to show my sadness

Riding the Acela a lot too for work, I was curious about the metallic paint. Thankfully working close to Union Station and checked out the actual set Lionel made a model of (Cab Cars 2021 & 2024). In the shade and overcast day like today in DC, you can actually see they are actually pretty close to the metallic flake that Lionel used. I suppose 20 years of baking in the sun, seeing them in the direct sunlight it looks more like the flat gray (like on the roof of the first picture or the TMCC model).

Everyone,

(Sorry... posted this on the wrong thread, wasn't paying attention)

Just an update the engines were "shipped" (dropped off at the Concord FedEx distribution center) Friday (4/1) last week.  FedEx showed them as being delivered Monday (4/4) and Lionel sent an eMail update on Tuesday (4/5) they had arrived. No other communication has occurred.

I also opened an RA on my remote which was dropped off at the same time and it was fixed and arrived today (very happy with the results)!  Therefore, the fastest turnaround time you should ever expect is one week (FedEx delivery, Lionel Reception, Repair/Fix, Lionel Package/ship, FedEx delivery) if you are local.

Finally, still waiting on the expansion set from Charles Ro.  I will probably reach out Monday next week to see what's up since many of the reviewers (ie; Eric, RBP (PE), etc) have already received their sets.

Anyone figure out if you can announce the specific stations? (DC, Phila, NYC, Boston) I thought on demos with Dave, he said it would? I have the bistro car, but can only get "Next stop".

It doesn’t say anything in the manual on specific stations, I recall him saying  “Sound effects of an entire trip from departure to destination”. could this be a case of the Mandela Effect?LOL

I haven’t used the  Aux 1 hold for 3sec  with the cafe automatic  sequence control, where  the horn signals, bell and radio chatter automatically with the engine  it works as well for the cafe car. It could be in the random cafe sound car  "next stop" announcement  within  sequence control.

I went back and rewatched. Dave just said sounds “specific to Amtrak” and my brain filled in details that didn't exist. Almost like the Mandela effect.
