About the LCCA –

The Lionel Collectors Club of America (LCCA) is a national, not-for profit, volunteer organization which was formed by Jim Gates of Perry IA along with 83 other charter members back in 1970.  The club has grown over the years and has approximately 13,000 members from all around the world, but predominantly in the US.  The purpose of the club is to "promote and foster interest, research, education and enjoyment of Lionel trains from 1900 to the present in particular and by association, all toy trains in general.  The motto of our club is “ A Lifetime of Happiness Collecting Lionel Trains”.

Current LCCA President Dennis DeVito has established a club goal of reaching out and having direct contact with at least 2600 LCCA members and family members this year with the Special Events Program.  President DeVito and the entire LCCA Board of Directors are committing the resources to this family oriented Special Events Program in an effort to expand the club by recruiting new members, retaining current members and promoting the hobby.  We are constantly reaching out and trying to attract new and younger people who may have never experienced the magic of Lionel trains.  We have several LCCA Special Events scheduled in various cities all around the country.  For more information go to the "Special Events" tab on our website www.lionelcollectors.org

For those LCCA Conventioneers flying into Logan International Airport, here are some transportation to host hotel options for your consideration.

Al Kolis

LCCA Transportation to Convention Site
By Frank San Severino [RM 31196] & Ken Beliveau [RM 24035]

With the Convention Headquarters being located at the Doubletree North Shore Hotel in Danvers, MA, on Boston’s North Shore, finding public transportation from the Logan International Airport can be broken down into several different types, which are outlined below.

The hotel is located approximately 20 miles from Logan and 22.2 miles from Downtown Boston.Because of its location, travel time from Logan may require 30-35 minutes with light traffic and much longer depending upon the day and time travelling.

The Tour Transportation Committee has compiled a list of transportation options for conventioneers to consider.

Destination Partners, Inc. [DPI]
Destination Partners, Inc. who are our partners in making tour arrangements have also made arrangements for individualized shuttle/limo service to and from Logan for individuals, families or groups for those who do not want to use some of the alternatives provided below. Using this service, reservations for transportation can be made in advance. Use the following link for more information:
http://www.prestoregister.com/cgi-bin/order.pl…'

Double Tree Hotel
The hotel does not offer a direct shuttle service to Logan International Airport. However, the hoteldoes offer a free shuttle service TO and FROM the Logan Express North Shore Terminal in Peabody, MA, about 10 miles and taking about 15 minutes from the hotel. To access this shuttle if you are taking the Logan Express simply call the Hotel from the Logan Express North ShoreTerminal and the hotel shuttle will pick up. When leaving the Hotel the procedure is reversed. The normal hours of operation for the hotel shuttle are from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm. If arriving earlier or later, contact the hotel for other options from the hotel to the Terminal at 978-777-2500.

Logan Express
https://www.massport.com/l…/to-and-from-logan/logan-express/

Logan Express is a non-stop bus service to and from Logan International Airport to its North Shore Terminal located at 164 Newbury Street (US Route 1 south), Peabody, MA. The service stops at all the Logan Airport Terminals (A, B, C, D and E – International Terminal). Service from Logan to Peabody starts at 4:15 AM every hour with the last service being at 1:15 AM. Service from Peabody to Logan is 4:15 AM and the last trip is at 10:15 PM.

A one way fare is $ 12.00 and round trip is $ 22.00. Senior fare (65+) is $ 11.00 and $ 20.00
Children (17 and under) are free. Time for the trip is between 30 and 45 minutes depending on traffic conditions. Refer to the previous information about the hotel shuttle to/from the North Shore Terminal.

Ferry Boat Service
A wonderful way to get to the hotel from Logan is by ferry boat!
Boston Harbor Cruise http://www.bostonharborcruises.com/salem-ferry/features/ (offers service from Boston’s Long Wharf to Salem Wharf. The Fast Ferry, The Nathaniel Bowditch, is 92 feet long and has a capacity of 149 passengers. The Ferry is owned by the City of Salem and operated under contract by Boston Harbor Cruises. Cost of a round trip adult (age 12-64) ticket $ 29.00. Senior ticket (age 65+) $ 24.00, Children aged 3-11 is $ 24.00.

Departure times from Boston: Monday – Thursday and Sunday 9:30, 11:00 AM, 2:30, 5:30 and 8:00 PM; Friday and Saturday the last Ferry out is at 9:00 PM; Departure times from Salem: Monday – Thursday 7:00, 10:30 AM, 1:00, 4:00, 7:00 PM; Friday last Ferry out is at 8:00 PM;
Saturday, the first Ferry out is 8:00 AM and the last is at 8:00 PM; Sunday first Ferry out is 8:00 AM and the last is at 7:00 PM.

To use this service from the airport, you need to take the MASS PORT shuttle Route 66 bus. This would bring you to the Logan Ferry Dock and you need to take the MBTA Harbor Express across the harbor to Rowe’s Wharf, where you would transfer to the Boston Harbor Cruise.

The trip ends at the Salem Ferry Dock at 10 Blaney St. Salem is one of the oldest and historic Towns in Massachusetts! It was here that the famous Salem Witch Trail took place in 1692 and home to famed author Nathaniel Hawthorne who wrote the Scarlet Letter.

One would need to take a taxi from the dock to the hotel and it would be about 25 – 30 minutes and about 10 miles. For information about taxis, refer to the following section.

Taxi Cab Services
Presently, three taxi companies provide service from the Salem Commuter Rail Station, the Ferry Landing and from Logan Express North Shore Terminal to the hotel.
1.) Tri-City Taxi 978-531-7966
2.) North Shore Taxi 978-532-2222
3.) Ameri-Cab 978-744-7440

Taxis to the hotel can be found at the Salem Commuter Rail Station when trains are expected from Boston. Some of these Companies will take reservations and will meet specific trains on request. The typical charge is approximately $20. The ride is approximately 20-25 minutes.

Depending upon the company, service to and from Logan and South Station in Boston is also available. The charge ranges from approximately $50 to/from Logan and $60 to/from South Station. Some offer minivans or SUVs which can also be requested.

Commuter Rail and Rapid Transit
The website provides additional information:  http://www.mbta.com/
For those attending who wish to use public transportation, or the T as we call it, from Logan International Airport, attendees must take the shuttle from Logan to the rapid transit Blue Line, inbound, then transfer to the Orange Line to North Station and take a commuter rail Rockport or Newburyport Line trains, both stop at Salem. By the way, North Station and these commuter lines once belonged to the Boston and Maine Railroad. Those of you using the Rapid Transit will be travelling on the oldest public transportation system in the United States!
Logan Shuttle to Blue Line rapid transit subway
Shuttle Bus No. 22 serves Terminals A & B
Shuttle Bus No. 33 serves Terminals C & D
Shuttle Bus No. 55 serves all terminals during off peak hours, early morning and
late night.

To reach North Station via the Blue Line: Blue Line inbound 3 stops to State Street and change to the Orange Line outbound 2 stops to North Station and take either Newburyport or Rockpot trains

Those arriving via AMTRAK at South Station, which served the old New York, Hew Haven and Hartford Railroad would take the Red Line inbound one stop to Washington St/Downtown Crossing and change to an Orange Line outbound train for 3 stops to North Station and change to Commuter Rail for either a Rockport or Newburyport Line train.

Alternative Airports

For those conventioneers who do not want to fly into Logan International Airport, there are other possibilities in the area and travel to the airport will require additional travel arrangements.
1. T.F. Green Airport in Rhode Island is about 90 minutes and 86 miles away. Travel time is subject to traffic on Interstate 95 and Mass Route 128.
2. Manchester Airport in New Hampshire is 45 miles and an hour away.
3. Bradley Airport, Windsor Lock, Connecticut is 131 miles away and trip would be little over two hours.

All of the airports offer car rental services.

Our Convention hotel is located on Massachusetts historic North Shore, many of these towns and cities were settled well before the American Revolution and also boast many neat sites to visit. The modes of transportation to get to the hotel offer attendees the chance to see some of the area by land, rail and see
