Hi. Just got back into the hobby after an absence of 15 years. Boy, have things changed. I'm running a few Legacy diesel engines using TMCC on a small fast-track laout. My next purchase was going to be the Lionel Century Club S-2 Turbine. After reading a few reviews, my main concerns are how does it smoke and run. The 2 diesels that I now have, smoke better than quite a few of my steamers. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Since this engine uses the old school Pullmor motor, don't expect the same slow speed sophistication as your Legacy locomotives. Smoke output is decent, but isn't quite as good as Legacy smoke units.
That engine has a fan driven smoke unit, so it smokes pretty decently. Some collectors were dissatisfied with the large-font nomenclature on the engine, and it should be noted there was a separate sale tender that is available, but I can't comment on the sounds.
FWIW I think this engine is very charming, runs well, and is a solid representation of the genesis of the Postwar Celebration Series. I have the Legacy S2 and one day will have the CC S2 as sort of a point-counterpoint display.
Another thing about the smoke unit, you can turn of the heating element via the remote but the fan will continue to run. I like mine a lot regardless of the for-mentioned running fan.
Welcome to the forum and it is a great running Locomotive
The engine itself is a repro of a postwar engine, so depending on what else you are running, it may be a bit on the small side.
I run mine more than any other modern engine I have (and probably more than all but two postwar engines). It smokes very good, and pulls decent. It seems like the wheels want to slip a bit easier on it than on my 681 turbine. The sounds are good, and the engine doesn't chuff, which is a nice touch.
If I have a gripe about this engine it would be the tether between the engine and tender. It's easy to connect and disconnect and functions as it should I think. I just don't like the way it looks and don't understand why it needs to be there.
I hope the last two engines from the Century Club I'm lacking are as fun to run as this one is. It will make the wait worthwhile.

I want to thank everyone for the fast replies and all the information, based on which, I just ordered the engine. Once again, thanks to everyone.....
I have the entire century club series, and although I like them all, this engine just is awesome.
The pulling power, the sounds, the smoke, just perfect. This is probably my quietest running pullmor berkshire type motored loco. Hope you enjoy yours. Make sure you get the extra streamline tender they made for it. Thats how I run mine.
looks pretty good to me, and good amount of smoke.
I concur with all of the positive comments above concerning the running, smoke and sounds attributes. The CC671 has become my favorite of the Century Club 1 series. I would also add that the extra die-cast streamlined tender greatly enhances the appearance of this engine and is very much worth acquiring.
Enjoy.

I totally agree, The Century Club Offerrings are all great Engines....Beautiful to look at, wonderful to run, and they sure bring back memories......Great Question...Happy Railroading.
Yes, all of the Century Club engines are great. I bought all of the engines when first out, but only put on display with an original PW engine of same. Then, when I could, purchased another of each to have a running of the same. Very pleased with them all, wish I could say the same of the CCII Niagara engine. I have had to change the coupling u joints with an all metal pair of U joints and the cherry switch, glue the tires onto the lead drivers and touch up the drivers paint. It is a great looking engine, and once the bugs are out of it......... looks good pulling a 15 car consist of dairy cars.

I still keep an eye out for the Pennsy Tender. Haven't seen one in a while.
We have the tender on Closeout
Is that the same one on the on-line store for $199? I'd prefer to go via the store and not ebay.
No, just call us at 516-378-9594 to order
