Thanks to everyone's review of the S-2, I placed an order for one a few days ago and received it yesterday. It was still sealed and thus a few questions... Was there a certificate about the Century Club that was suppose to be included and for the life of me, I cant find the small plastic overlay for my hand held remote. Those two issues aside, it's a great little engine. It stalled a few times even after oiling, now it running fine, guess it needed some run time after sitting in the box for so many years. Also, the smoke was a little wimpy, until I coupled a few metal log and coal dump cars to the conscript. Now it runs great, smokes pretty good, the rail sounds are fine and the whistle is unbelievable. Very happy with this purchase. Just a side note, the video that I saw that got me back into O trains is well worth watching. It's called "Classic Lionel Trains in Action" on you tube. Its a video that Lionel should have filmed something like it back in the day....

Mine was also sealed; I don't recall a certificate (there were "blueprints" though), but I didn't go through all the paperwork. I also don't recall seeing an overlay; again I didn't look too hard for it. If no one responds more definitively, I will get my boxes out of storage and take a better look. Email me off list if I forget...

Certificates were for Century Club II, not Century Club I.

The overlays were a bit of a hit and miss over the years.  I received several engines without them over the years.  One of the first ones I had with no overlay, I think I called Lionel and had one sent.  (I wouldn't suspect that's an option at this point for this 15 + year old engine )
