Those early engines are very rebuildable, you should be able to get any part you need for pretty cheap, or contact a repairman
As stated above, these motors very simple and usually bullet proof. I just brought one back to life a few months ago with ease. What are the symptoms?
binds very bad. needs new wheels. have had some one to look at it and they were not sure why it was binding. maybe wrong gears? not sure. i have to repaint the shell and coal car so they look better.
Wheels swell and then the gears cast on the back of the wheels get "tight".. Probably need wheels. You should be able to get em for about $30-40 and install them ...carefully ....yourself
Well, if you are looking for one as a project (I would say as parts, but it's too nice to let that happen), I have that one I got running listed here for sale:

I would think that all original motors should fit that shell though.
I've rebuilt one if those motors for someone on these forums. I've also rebuilt several for mg own restorations. I also gave an extra complete motor I am willing to sell. If you want you can send it to me and I will try to get it running, or I'll sell you a complete running motor. The wheels have the gears cast on as part of the wheel. They may be swollen, or there may be another problem such as an improper or incorrectly installed brush plate, bent armature shaft etc. I have some wheels if I needed them.
