I just purchased this engine. It is my first Lionel conventional locomotive. I was reading the instruction manual and it says to connect the drawbar between the locomotive and the tender. Am I missing something? Are the electrical wires supposed to be able to connect to each other? I don’t see how that’s possible. My apologies if I’m obviously missing something here. Thank you for your time.

What is the Lionel part number? That engine appears to have a Legacy wireless drawbar.

It’s number 6-11270
John I found it. It does have an IR transmitter and receiver I assume to transmit the chuff signal from the engine to the Railsounds board in the tender. There are no wires connecting the two.
How does it run?

Great, thanks for your help! I haven’t run it yet, because I wasn’t sure if those wires were supposed to connect, and I didn’t want to break anything. I’ll let you know when I run it!

It runs really well! Great little engine. I got it for a repaint project, and I’m very pleased.

The sound cuts out when I hit the directional button. Do I need to replace a battery or something?
I am impressed with all those sounds in a conventional engine. Does the drawbar stay alligned when it moves in reverse?

Yes it does! I love the sounds.

It doesn't come with a battery. However, if you want a one-stop solution, you can install this and never have to think about the battery again. This is a permanent replacement for the Alkaline battery used in Lionel equipment, this one has the direct connect to the RailSounds-Lite board in this unit.
