Has anyone -- or perhaps any of our dealer sponsors here on the forum -- heard of a potential Lionel Dealer Appreciation Boxcar for 2014?  I've been collecting these since the series started a few years ago.  The boxcar graphics has typically coordinated with that year's Signature catalog cover, but haven't seen anything on the shipping schedule (yet) for a 2014 car.

Just curious...

Like everything else in life, perhaps things have evolved from their original intention.  I always thought dealers were given ONE by Lionel.  Then over the years these became a bit more popular as most dealers sold them to enthusiasts.  At some point, the money-making opportunity won out.  And the car became something dealers could order in quantities.

Just my thoughts.  Anyone know the true history behind these cars?

In case anyone is interested, here's the 2014 design...

Understandably, the Big Boy makes an appearance here... which continues on in the tradition that the car's graphics typically coordinate with the corresponding year's catalog cover.  And of course the engine number 4014 is a natural to coordinate with the year 2014.  Nice design!

Nice looking car, better then most. I believe its the 7th or 8th car in the series but IMO, 2008 is still the best looking car of the lot.

I think it's awesome and the design is fantastic.

Thanks, gentlemen!  That's great to hear.  Last year I recall seeing the car on Lionel's shipping schedule, but it hasn't yet made the list this year.  So I wasn't sure if Lionel was producing them anymore.  Thanks again!!!

Thanks!  I just saw the Ro email in my inbox this morning.

For those who asked - it looks like the non-scale speciality cars Lionel pumps out - like the PE, Presidents and Elvis cars.  That's fine with me, as 1940s 40' boxcars are around the same size anyway.

Thanks Charlie.  I figured that's the way it worked for these cars.  But perhaps Lionel occasionally has a surplus, and they may offer any extras to one or a few dealers.  Probably not that many extras though.  The Charles Ro email first indicated "limited qty", but now they're already showing "sold out" after 2 or 3 days.
