Lionel Dreyfuss Hudson with K-Line 1938 20th Century Limited

Looks good, I bid on that same car but the price got too high for what it was worth to me. I have that K Line set I pull with my VL Hudson, great cars! Fred

Wow, the stripes are a fantastic match.  The difference in the tone of gray? Well, that happened in the real world with fading and such . . .  That looks really nice.

Yep, while we were watching all of you freezing you butts off in the "polar vortex" we were baking in a 110 degree heat wave 

We have the K-Line 15" 20th Century Ltd cars, same paint as the 18".  We have 3 Dreyfuss Hudsons, but only the MTH 20-3045 is a close gray match to the K-Line cars.  The Lionel is, of course, a good match to their own 20th Century set.  The 3rd Rail engine (1940 scheme, white stripe) is somewhere betwixt/between for grayness.  But who cares?

 

One of the 'yawniest' discussions we have at the store (LHS) is re paint colors...fidelity, match, accuracy, etc.  Sunny, cloudy, shady, fresh, faded, shop A, shop B, greenish black, blackish green, ....blah, blah, blah.  It's always fun to mix passionate opinion with aging knowledge with all-too-common ignorance.  What a bloviated brew.  Good show, though....It competes well with some of the loud discussions in the adjacent department....Games....the role-playing type.   (Good grief, what ARE they talking about???)

 

Ah, well, it beats talking about the weather or politics, anyway.

At long last, plucked a set off eBay as soon as it was listed. This was by far the hardest to find K-Line set I've ever been after. Very reasonable "Buy it Now" price from closeouttrains in NJ. I'm thrilled, can't wait to complete the train when I get home (they were delivered to me in NY while I'm here on business).

 

You were very lucky, I have chased that set for some time.  Thank you for sharing.

Nice acquisition, Nick. I am very partial to 21" K-Line passenger cars. and that set is just beautiful.

I wish I had the cars. They look like a perfect match for the mth 20-3045 dreyfuss. Do you have that one? I do and I love it. If so, post a pic showing the color of the engine to the cars. Looking far and wide for cars that match.

I don't personally have one but I do have a picture of one with these cars. Alas, it is on my computer back home so I will have to post it when I return in another week. From what I recall the grays were very close but the stripe was not as good a match as the Lionel model.

Nick....glad you finally nailed those cars.  You have any idea when you will be able to start the new layout?

New layout is still a while down the road, but we're getting closer every day. We're closing on the building and classic car dealership that will house the layout in another week. Things are moving along!

Finally back home and settled in, here are some photos of the full train. Will have to start scavenging for some broken up duplicates to add length.

I hope Lionel reissues those cars and painted to match the Dreyfuss' colors!  I have the matching 15" cars but they're way too short.

It's almost odd that the cars really do match the Lionel engine in every aspect except the shade of gray. The transition from tender to train is nearly flawless with the curves and contours and stripe dimensions.

Here is that picture of the MTH Dreyfuss with this set. After looking at it again I am no longer sure which specific release this one is.

 

I have been happy with my MTH 20th Century streamliners...until now. They're 

not bad, but K-line's just look so much better. Thanks a lot; sheesh!

 

I miss K-line, more and more.

I only wish K-Line would have stuck around long enough to release these in the full 21". What really sets them apart from the rest is the full streamline skirting on all cars. As far as I know, these are the only 18" 1938 Century cars on the market with full streamline skirting.
