True, however, Lionel has long since switched to dual powered axles on diesel locomotive trucks.

I would say that Mike Reagan is showing his influence in new product development.
They are very nice looking engines. A little pricey. Nothing in the road names that I need though. Hope they sell great.
I ordered three road names, and yes, a little pricey. However, after perusing this post, I may add another. Thank you Don for posting the pics, very nice indeed.

K-Line did more than one SP E-8? Hmmm, SP only had 1 E8 in their roster though (#6018). Any cab number less than that would have been E-7s and any higher than that and be an E-unit would be E-9s and those started at #6046.
PC or Conrail?!?!? Blasphemy! Daylight colors too gaudy? Repaint 'em in the scarlet & gray "bloody nose" scheme. That way it will compliment the beastly, utilitarian look of the E units, and you don't commit sacrilege and paint them in some non-western road in the process.
John:
Now, now - my SP and ATSF cred is intact: my favorite articulated is the AC9, and I've
got Santa Fe and SP steamers all over (and one DRGW) - BUT, as a true New York Central guy I must say that those Long Black Trains that are the PC and pre-blue Conrail E's just fill the room.
Didn't know that the Espee only had one actual E8. Good to know. So far as I know the only external difference between an E8 and an E9 (barring any labels) was the headlight
glass retaining ring/rubber. Really.
The Bloody Nose scheme can be striking, for sure (as can the Daylight and Black Widow),
and would look good on the E's. I saw a loco in the Bloody Nose scheme at a shop
recently; looked sharp - and it was only a Williams very-incorrect Dash-9!

Just the mere fact that you're considering repainting those E units to an eastern road is grounds enough to lose your SP cred.
OK, so i know what the E7's were, but am still uncertain about what the wheel arrangement will be on the E8's.
More pictures of UP's E-9 unit. Note: the nose door was removed by UP so this isn't really a good example of a stock E-9. Don
