It seems (recently) that Lionel is using the same figures in the cabs of the steam engines I have purchased. I would like to get some variety and give this crew a break! I have been reluctant to just start prying the figures out of their seats. Can someone who has chnged out the figures offer some advice......I am hesitant to move forward for fear of damaging things. Thanks.

Don't know how they are attached but Arttista makes some very nice ones. I always thought the crews in all the locos were not very good in the detail department. Don
Agreed. In fact I was planning on using the Artista figures.......but don't know if Lionel just used a tiny drop of cement, or welded those guys to their seats for all eternity........
If the back of the cab is removable. The stock figures just pry out. Their back has a square hole that presses on to the square boss. I use Arttista figures. I start by filing of the square boss that's used to hold them in place.
I then fab up a seat to place the Arttista on. On this one I used some brass strip.
I then put it back in the cab and try placing the figure in to see how well they will clear everything. Sometimes toes or feet need to be removed. You can either add some glue and place the figure in the cab with tweezers. Or remove it. Glue the figure in place. Then reassemble it. If you do the later. Re insert it before the glue sets. In case you need to tweak the figure slightly. Alene's tack gel glue works well.

Dave C., Many thanks!! I appreciate the explanation. I had no idea that the backs of some of the cabs were removeable.
Just go to Lionel's site and go to replacement parts. Find your engine and look at the parts diagram. I believe most of mine were removable in some form.
