I am hoping someone else has run into this problem and been able to solve it. I have 3 ES44AC Diesels, 2 are Vision Lines, a CP and the GE Evolution as well as a UP non-Vision. The UP and the GE Evolution are working as designed. When you hit the 4th level RPM, the radiator fans kick in and spin. The CP rail does not. So I ordered a replacement fan from Lionel (pt # 6208306146) thinking this would be an easy fix. When the 1st one did not fix the problem, 6 months later, I ordered another one. Both new fans performed similarly, but not exactly. One began spinning (about a half a turn and stopped, the other spins slowly, but then stops, then a few minutes later might start again. I was prepared to box up the engine and send it into Lionel when I decided to remove the radiator hatch from the GE Evolution and just try it on the CP. It worked perfectly, which led me back the the replacement fans. I put a meter on the fan connection point on the locomotive and found a constant 4.5v when the fans were not engaged. Once it hit level 4 RPM's. the voltage went up to 5v. That .5v increase is enough to turn on the fans on. Using a DC power supply, I found that the replacement fans needed closer to a full volt to get them spinning.
My question is does anyone know whether there is a replacement part number for these fans or something I could try with these fans to get them spinning with the correct voltage?
Thanks - Mike
