I bought a Lionel b unit with command and an electrocoupler on one end. I did not get any instructions with it. Can anyone tell me if this does anything but in un couple itself? I tried to add it to my cab 1 unit but didn't have any luck. Can anyone give any insight on this unit for me please. Thanks, Glenn

These are nice. They have a directional lighting as well in one end of the unit.
No smoke.
But they are scale looking and a great add to ABA earlier release.
There is a switch underneath to program a separate number into it.
I add that new program number to the lash up.

Boxcar Bill, thanks for the link it will be of great use to me. The only thing I did not see was any information on the battery receptacle. Does a 9v battery need to be used to operate the coupler or tmcc functions? Thanks, Glenn
Hello everyone. Can anyone tell me what year Lionel came out with the Lionel Santa Fe 6-14539 B unit. I bought one on Ebay that was shown as brand new. When it arrived, it did indeed have the original carboard box with Lionel on it as well as the Lionel box with the unit neatly wrapped in plastic in the Styrofoam. All went well until I put it on my test track, and nothing happened. Moving the little switch did not change anything. I also put a 9 volt battery in it but still nothing. Second question. Does it need a remote to work? Thanks so much for any help.
@RailhammerJohn That unit is circa 2005. It is unpowered, without sound or smoke. The only thing that “operates” on it is one electro coupler and the directional lighting. The electro coupler only works in TMCC command mode.
here is the manual online at the Lionel site.
Thanks Bob and ByronB for your answers. It puzzles me why they put a circuit board inside the unit and also put collectors on both trucks. All for just the electro coupler, so it doesn't have rail sounds. That was the thing I was hoping it would have. Now I am disappointed with this purchase. Didn't get what I wanted. Thanks for all your help in this issue. Much appreciated.
