If I were to be using trestles and Lionel FasTrack, what can you do for the track that is elevated that wouldn't have roadbed? Is there a practical transition track option?
I have a mix of fastrack and gargaves track on my layout. In an area that went over a bridge I used standard O27 track, as I do not like the look of the roadbed where there isn't roadbed in real life.
Use a Lionel 6-12040 Fastrack 5" Transition straight. This takes you from FasTrack to tinplate. Almost every track mfg has tinplate adapter pins. Using this and the appropriate pins, you can adapt to basically anything.
The Lionel Fastrack Trestle works very good with the Fastrack track pieces. I think it is very sturdy and reliable. If you want to look down between the rails, then you will need the Fastrack to tube rail adaptor pieces they make (straight section only) and then use the standard trestle system.
