lionel high cube and kadee couplers

are you referring to the 86' high cubes? They are a piece of cake with the enclosed coupler pockets and spacers. I do highly suggest adding a bit of weight to the cars, and adding some support to the end of the floor where the coupler attaches.

I went back and cut styrene and glued to the inside of the car to make the ends stronger. The coupler would sag, causing the trip pin to hit the rail and frogs. I used the same pockets and spacers on my Lionel auto racks.

thanks..i was hoping to keep the swinging drawbar. if i body mount it will be a beautifull shelf queen. i dont have big curves all over. ok thanks again cr john

I used the extra long shanked KD's on the Lionel auto carriers to help in my yards. I used those on the Atlas long flat cars too. I didn't get my hands on the High cubes yet. In fact most of the Lionel auto cars I bought are still packed.

My auto racks and 86 footer have the long shank couplers and will take 072 curves just fine.

They will NOT due "S" curves at all.

i do have some long shanks i will try one out. thanks for the tip ! cr john
