I want to buy a used Lionel KW transformer. One that has been checked out and is in good operating condition. I do not want some cleaned up/shined up, fire hazard.

Is there a sponser on this forum someone would recommend? Or, is there a seller on Ebay with a good reputation for reconditioning these older transformers? There are so many listed on Ebay alone, I don't even know where to start.

Also, what would an average price be on a good KW?

Thanks.

Jeff

And why not buy a ZW while you’re at it.  The prices of ZW’s have fallen so much that for a few extra bucks you would get 45% more capacity (wattage) along with 4 VARIABLE output ranges.  And IMO the ZW is so much easier to use both in operating the trains as well as in wiring the layout with 4 independent “hot” terminals and one common buss.

Testimonial: I bought a rebuilt ZW from og fan and it looks great, works fabulously, and has been trouble free. There's nothing like a classic ZW!

Thanks for all the input. The reason I want a KW, is because that is what I had when I was a child. Then, when my kids were young, I sold most of my Lionel items to help pay bills for our young and growing family. Now, I want to try , over time, to reacquire Lionel items that I had when growing up. The KW is one of those items.

 Thanks again for the replies.
