Dear Lionel Team,

As a dedicated O-scale steam locomotive enthusiast, I truly appreciate the craftsmanship and innovation that Lionel continues to bring to the hobby. Their commitment to high end legacy features, quality detailing, and performance has kept the spirit of classic railroading alive for collectors and operators alike.

That said, I’d love to see Lionel expand its lineup to include more of the unique and historically significant European and international steam locomotives similar to what MTH previously produced. Models like the Chapelon Pacific, the Bavarian S 3/6 (K.Bay.Sts.B.), the French 241.A, and the LMS Duchess Class are stunning examples of world-class locomotive engineering that would make fantastic additions to Lionel’s Legacy lineup. These locomotives have a strong following, and with MTH’s departure from full locomotive production, there’s a real opportunity for Lionel to capture this market.

A Lionel-built version of these and other prestigious European steam engines with your renowned smoke, sound, and Legacy control features would be a dream come true for many of us in the O-gauge community. The European and international rail scene remains an underrepresented but highly desirable segment, and Lionel is in a prime position to lead the way.

I truly appreciate the work you put into bringing legendary locomotives to life, and I hope you’ll consider these suggestions for future production. Thanks for keeping O-scale steam alive and well!

Best regards,

Totally support this topic,

As great and exciting as MTHs line of products was when it came to European trains. One of the things that Mike Wolf failed to do was to introduce locomotives that are much more widely regarded and easily recognizable here in the states. Had they made models of the LNERs A1-A3 pacific’s such as the Flying Scotsman or the later A4 streamlined pacific such as the Mallard that set the 126mph land speed record Then I believe the European line could have lasted a lot longer than it did. Tho I’m not so sure if Lionel would tackle these kinda engines, It would come down to how many people ask and the overall demand for stuff like this. Im in the camp that MTHs sounds for these engines were outstanding compared to what Lionel could offer today. Personally the chances are pretty slim. That said I would love to see someone else to make the attempt, It would also be very exciting to see some high speed trains such as the TGV or even japans bullet trains.

The only other American manufacturer to make European locomotives was 3rd rail.

A few months back I was very fortunate to come across there brass model of Flying Scotsman and absolutely love it.

While I'd prefer Legacy European steam engines, e.g., the Kreigslocomotive being at the top of my list, for the Legacy Railsounds, I think the higher probability of anyone making them would be MTH, once again. Yet even MTH's lineup has been fairly conservative the last few years.

I would've thought we'd have seen a scale Legacy Hogwarts and scale cars by now..that would make an awesome set.
