I'm in the process of constructing a small (4' X 12') industrial layout, and want a good switch engine - one which can handle O-36 curves and switches at switch engine speeds without stalling.

I really like the looks and features of the Legacy Alco S-2 (I have the Legacy control system), but I really want to hear from someone who has an S-2 and find out how it is working out for you. Feel free to send me an email or respond here; thank you in advance.

I have the NYC version of this switcher. It's a nice, smooth runner. Mine arrived with really stiff couplers, but a little work and they were functioning perfectly. I use all FasTrack and have no issues with switches, stalling etc. The sounds are pretty good, standard for a switching locomotive. Don't expect it to move quick as it is geared pretty low.

I’ve got a B&O TMCC version of the Alco S2. I had to replace a gear under the motor, that may have also connected movement to the trucks. I don’t remember exactly what it was now, but I do recall getting really frustrated at trying to do it all. Does anyone know if Lionel resolved this or redesigned it for the Legacy version? That NYC black looks pretty cool.
