I just purchased my Lion Master Big Boy and it seems to have smoke trouble. The resistors get hot but the fan motor doesn't run. I tested the fan motor and it runs when DC voltage is applied. I'm at a loss I've never seen this before. Has anyone had this problem?

Sometimes a simple reset solves the problem.
Factory reset?
This is one that I kinda' doubt a reset will help, but it sure doesn't hurt to try it.
Are you getting chuffing sound when you run? If not, the cherry switch is the top suspect. If you have chuff sounds, then I'd be looking at the smoke unit and it's wiring. The smoke unit PCB circuit manages the fan on that model, could be something silly like a bad connection from the serial data signal, or that board may have failed.
All of the sounds are functioning, I've checked the connections and even toned them. My concern is Lionel says the pcb board is not available any longer.
That's correct, they're apparently out of them. I actually got one of these LM-BB locomotives for repair no long ago for the same issue. My fix was to use the Super-Chuffer II to replace the fan control. It actually does a better job as well, and gives you some lighting enhancements as well.
If you have tried the factory reset with no change, then definitely the Super Chuffer II board is the way to go. I have installed a couple including one in the Lionmaster challenger, and they work great. You'll be happy with the result.
