I've got a new legacy mallet and intermittently it will start to lurch, then it stops and then the cab flight starts flashing. According to the manual a single flash of the cab light is the code for "main drive motor stalled". Doing a full reset of the engine (the AUX1 + 2 way) will usually fix the problem for a short time but the problem always recurs eventually. Before I return it to the dealer for an exchange, does anyone know of an easy cause or fix for this? Anything to check?

keep in mind, as I said above, that I've already tried a full reprogram/reset of the engine and this only fixes the problem temporarily.

thanks,

Eric,

There could be something wrong electrical that is causing the motor to act funny. Unfortunately though if you take the shell off the locomotive you will void the warranty on it so I think it is best to just exchange it.

Good thing you brought something like this up because no one has said anything bad about these new Legacy mallets although motors stalling can occur in any locomotive.

The new Legacy engines have a chip that monitors the voltage and amp draw. If it is exceed it shuts that feature down.

You probably have either a bum motor, or a binding mechanism. Coulc be in the drive train or in the drivers and side rods.

I would return it for another if you can. Otherwise if one is not available return it for repair.

I on the other hand would have already voided the warranty... its just my nature to fix things...
