Hi,

I am new with Lionel trains, more familiar with French JEP models.

My idea is to build a 6 wheels locomotive model as it was in my grand-mother's village in the 1910's.

In order to check the "O" scale, I bought 2 engines from Ebay which seemed to be good.

I was looking around for electrical transformer and so on, and I read some available threads on this Forum.

But the best is to begin by the beginning and to ask : "what is exactly in my hands ?".

The pictures of Locomotive #1 and #2 are below.

I would like to know from which period they were built and if possible on what type of model.

Thank you for helping.

Regards

Henri

Olsen's Toy Train Parts is not only a good source of replacement parts, but they also have large portions of the old Lionel service manual posted on their website.

A couple of useful links:

The 675/2025 from 1952:

All about the E-unit (reverse unit--these often need service):

More info on Lionel motors:

I didn't see diagrams for the 2056 (only a parts list), but that motor is very similar to the 675/2025 motor.

The first 2025 pictured in that link is the earlier version with the Baldwin drivers.  The 2025 that Henri has is the later (1952) version with solid wheels for which this link is also given in that table further down the page: http://www.postwarlionel.com/images/2025late.jpg.

Not also the different trailing truck.  Some parts are interchangeable but many are not.

HTH,

Bill
