Hi: I have one of the S-3s #265, and lately one port of the "cylinder cocks" on one cylinder is plugged. Any ideas what may be occurring?

Jeff: It's been about 7 years since I opened my #261 up for service, but you may have a smoke supply tube either kinked (as mine was) or it may be disconnected entirely.
BTW, when removing the boiler for access to the smoke unit, the cab area was very tight on clearances around the engineer and fireman figures.
Before taking it apart, you could try blowing into the clogged tube, maybe even with compressed air if lung power doesn't do the job.
Thanks guys for your replies. I will do both of these things to hopefully fix the problem. Taking the boiler shell off the frame sounds scary, but I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Thanks again.
Jeff
If you remove the boiler shell make sure the handrail standoffs in front don't come loose from the boiler and slide off the handrails. I put a small spot off black liquid tape on my handrails ahead of the standoffs so they can't come off the end of the handrails.
