Lionel motor driver boards reverse only

I recently worked on some Lionel engines. that would only run in 1 direction. I recall working on some MTH engines PS1 or PS2 that had the same problem. I seem to recall that there were 2 transistors 1 for forward and 1 for reverse. One of them could possibly solve the problem. Does anyone know if Lionel motor driver boards can be repaired by replacing a similar component?
