I asked this in another thread, but not getting a response. Will the new Lionel PRR L1s have Kadee mounting pads? MTH did Hi-Rail and Scale wheel versions of the L1 so I'm assuming it had Kadee mounts. It seems hard to believe Lionel would remove that feature, but it isn't listed.

Secondly, Has Lionel commented at all on their intentions with the MTH Scale Wheel tooling? Is 2 rail steam dead or will Lionel keep it going? I'm assuming its dead since the L1 is 3R only.  Just looking for a definitive answer.

Thanks

The recent 10 Wheelers did not have what you would call pads. The frame is tapped for what looks like 2mm. thread. Screws are provided and 2 spacers that fit over screws and under the Kadee. These raise the Kadee up to the level of the tender body.  The frame sits a bit lower than the shell. I haven’t got around to mounting them yet to see if they ride at the correct height. I usually make a T shaped bracket to get the right offset. They were run about a year ago. So I would assume anything new would have the holes pre drilled.

The above posts both make good points, …..Dave & Rick are both smart fellas, ….the only thing I can add, is when mthpartsandsales.com does get the L1 parts list added in, the Kadee mounting bracket might become available if there’s some inventory of them,….a quick check of some recent added Premier steam locomotives does indeed show the Kadee mounts with a part number,…..if Lionel follows the tooling to the letter, to be sure the threaded holes might already be done …..I just took a peek, and I did not see the L1 added to the parts website yet,..but again, to be sure it’s coming …..

Confirmed that the bracket does come with the locomotive, but watching Norm's video it seems to leave a little to be desired as it puts the Kadee sticking out pretty far.

As for the other question, it was sort of answered in another thread... MTH would consider producing Scale Wheeled models, but only if a dealer meets the minimum order quantity for a custom run. So far no takers to my knowledge unfortunately. We are definitely past "peak" O scale...

The Kadee mount Lionel provided worked fine (height was good) but it made the draft gear of a standard 805/74X stick out too far (IMO). They probably set it that way to keep it from interfering with the rear truck. I made a quick 3D printed version to host an 806 (shorter box) which gives enough clearance for the rear truck's Electrocoupler mount.
