Need to service, clean contacts, check continuity, and rewire bulb and possibly the calanoid power supply.
Problem is, how do I remove the plastic orange generator & red pump housings?

From underneath, those two black screws that flank where the binding posts are.....
Pat
That worked well - Thanks!
Any ideas for the red pump housing? I see two white studs that look like they may be snaps, but the housing is red.....
The pump housing is held down with two pal nuts ( push locks) from underneath as well....it’s really not necessary to take all that apart for servicing......you’ll do more harm than good trying to get that apart...

Yup, I see the pal nuts. I think I will forgo replacing the wire to the calanoid and just replace the one to the light bulb as it has some wire showing, and make any necessary contact adjustment.
Thanks for the help.

I’d fix the lamp wire and test it before I adjusted anything.....that’s a pretty robust accessory......if it hums, pumps, and bubbles the bubble light....let her eat....
Pat
That be the plan - Thanks Pat
Tony, I did a post some time ago about harvesting bubble lamp tubes from dead Christmas ornaments to jazz up the ol 455.....you can change the colors all you want if you find some.....OE Lionel tube far left 6th photo...
Love it !
I'll need to keep my eye out for a couple...........
Thanks
I've had one of these for a few years now, she's a little rusty, but I love it (I've also got a NIB repo one.) Back when my grandpa was still working (oil and gas company, former pipeline company), it sat in his office running off a lifelike transformer. He cut up some coffee stirrers and put them on the barrel rack, sat a 6465 tanker beside it, and it sat running in his office until the day he retired.
is there a place i can get a control board for the oil derrick?

I found a number of the 455 Oil Derricks on ebay in various condition, you can pick one up for parts. The one used for parts can still be on your layout with a repair crew around it. You can also try Hennings trains and see if they can help: https://hennings-trains.shoplightspeed.com/parts/
