I spoke with Lionel and they said they no longer have the railsounds board. The part number is 691RSPRA00. The engine is an older Legacy Diesel. Crew talk, and tower cam work fine but the diesel sounds cut out when it goes through the sequence. Lionel said that it is the board. Can I get some direction help on this one?

Can I assume you are running conventional ? Have you installed the 9 volt battery to back-up the power when you cut power to the track ?
I am running Legacy. The 9 volt battery has been refreshed with a new one. The engine starts normally but then cuts out during the sequence.
Can you describe what you mean by 'sequence' ? When is it cutting out, when it begins to move? Does it do this if running in conventional also ?
Chuck,
In Legacy, you press the start up button for this engine on the remote. The sequence is this:
1. Tower cam begins to talk with a message that we will get this train moving
2. The diesel sound begins to start up the engine, but goes silent ( At this point all sound cuts out (the train is not moving) All goes silent no RPM sounds. Tower cam and Crew talk will still work but no rail sounds. Bell and Horn work fine also. I do not run any trains in conventional mode. I can switch this engine over to conventional mode if need be, but previously it always worked fine in Legacy mode.

So you are aware, there is separate volume for prime mover- aka engine sounds VS other sounds.
Being the sound card basically works, and you are missing prime mover sounds, I would hit AUX1 on the remote, and then keep pressing Vol up (1 in CAB mode). The AUX1 prior to volume is like a shift key choosing a different option- in this case, specifically prime mover volume VS global volume.
Edit- again it makes perfect sense. The extended startup sequence or even normal startup sequence are separate recordings and fall under a special category of sound clip or sequence. So there would be the startup sounds (under global volume setting), however if prime mover and background sounds was specifically adjusted to be lower or off completely, then it would do EXACTLY that symptom- no prime mover sounds in operational mode while signal sounds and crew talk remain at the global volume setting.
This is a newer manual but should still apply.
When adjusting the overall volume, you'll hear a single bell hit that gets louder or softer
with each volume adjustment. When the volume is at maximum, additional button presses
have no effect and won't play the bell. When adjusting the background sounds (AUX1, then a
volume key) you'll hear the prime mover volume change without a single bell hit.

If those suggestions from Vernon don't work, remove the sound card from it's pins and then reinsert.
Vernon and Chuck,
Thank you guys. I hit the Aux 1 and hit the volume up on the remote. It came on, I adjusted it to the level of sound I wanted and all is well again.
Thank you.....Thank you...... OGR comes through again!!
