I am interested in putting a different shell on one of my railsounds box cars. Can anyone tell me if there is a Lionel series that has interchangeable shells?

From memory, you should be able to swap MPC 9400/9700 series boxcar shells on your RS boxcar chassis.

D&H 65's recollection is correct. To add to his comment, you would be looking to match a shell from a boxcar of comparable dimensions with a metal chassis and screw tabs. Some Modern Era boxcars fit that bill. You probably will want to tape the sliding doors shut, too.
