Essentially, yes it does. The frame and motor really didn't go through many changes from postwar to modern era.
Be forewarned, the motor armature bearings on this and its Lackawanna cousin were often defective.
I bought one of these a few years ago. Gave a quick test and it seemed fine. Does anyone have any tips/suggestions for cleaning/lubing? Any motor adjustments to be checked?
Thanks Don

If the motor does go wrong, it's best to go to a Lionel service center or dealer to have it checked.
When these engines were new, Lionel was attentive to this issue since changing the bearings wasn't easy.
Yes it is. I had one of the Rock Islands that ran like crap. I had a spare motor from a postwar 681 turbine and put that in the RI. Problem solved. I recall that I did need to use a couple of thin brass shims between the motor casting and the loco frame to get a smooth mesh of the worm and worm gear. Without the shims the mesh was too tight. You can feel this by turning the loco drivers by hand with the motor installed.
