I would say the second unit smokes normal, and the AC6000 smokes like an old Alco.

I agree, huge amounts of drifting smoke is not prototypical to a diesel.
Diesel smoke under load should be light and hard fan driven.
AC6000 stacks should be pushing smoke out at a slight angle.

At the end of the month i am also getting the Lionel Santa Fe AC6000
zwbob,
It looks sweet! The WarBonnett Scheme look Great on any diesel! I hope to acquire the Western Maryland 'Heritage' variant and the Legacy control system at some point.

because that is the minimum curve it will go around with out coming off the track.
does any of your ac6000 have a woble to them
Joker,
Yes! Mine does, and I have looked at all the obvious potential causes such as tires, a visible bump or out-of-round wheel, but none of these have been it. I have not run it upside down to see if perhaps an axle is bent because I am not sure whether it can be run like that as if it were a conventional engine.
Alex
i did a little more looking at mine and it looks like one of the tires is not the same thickness all the way around. so i jope thats what it is.
i swaped out all the traction tires that came with my ac6000 and still had the problem. so i tried a set of mth traction tires, now smooth as glass. guess lionel may have had a bad batch of tires they all seemed to have half of the tire to thick.
Mine wobbles too.
Joker,
". . . so i tried a set of mth traction tires, now smooth as glass."
Which MTH tires did you use?
Thx!

Would it not be easier to just call Lionel service and request new tires to replace the defective ones? I'm sure they'll ship them N/C.
I have this engine. I'll be checking mine this weekend.
Joe
im not sure which one i used, they were in my gp-38-2 box. so i just tried them and it fixed the problem. it would be easier to call lionel but it was 2am when i started to mess with it. i will still call lionel and see about getting some more.
talked to lionel and they did send me another set free of charge just as you said JC
i got my Lionel Santa-Fe AC6000 yesterday do i have to remove the trucks to oil it

Flemming: You shouldn't have to remove the trucks to oil the engine; just follow the diagrams in the instruction manual. The only reason to remove the trucks would be to add some grease in the gearbox or oil the lower motor shaft bushings.
My 6000 has great sounds however they are to low in volume, the other trains drown the sound out to a point that you cannot hear them at all 10 feet away. Other then that it is a sweet engine.
