Is the Lionel Scout Engine, cast metal, suppose to have a working front headlight? I got mine dirt cheap, and it runs fine, but the headlight cowling is just a round hole.
Thx

I should have added that it is a Model 1110 Scout.
And, . . . what about smoke?
Thx, Mannyrock
It uses a #51 6-volt bayonet bulb. The 1110 did not smoke, but the 6110 used a unique smoke unit that had a hole in the shell above the headlight with a scoop on the smoke unit that funneled air to push the smoke up the stack (didn't work that great).
Thanks John,
So how complicated is it for me to replace that bulb?
Remove the two screws from the steamchest to remove the crosshead guide plate and you should be able to pivot the motor down enough to reach the bulb. Rear motor mount is a pressed pin, but you should be able to leave that in.
Incidentally, the 1110 Scout will take one of those LED replacement bulbs with utmost equanimity:

Great info guys! Thanks.
Mannyrock, the Tandem Associates website has information on many (if not all) postwar engines and accessories. There are other websites too, but this one does a good job of giving a high level overview of features and variations.

For diàgrams, and the site is great but has a lot of down time, Olsen's trains (usually easiest to enter the library at first via an image search's photo/diagram. Old Lionel suppliments are at their site in support. A little tricky to navigate but there's a lot of good exploded views, etc.
