Check out the animation.  Sorry, couldn't get the video to imbed.  The video has the info about the crossing.  It operated until 1970.  I bet that air raid siren scared the c**p out of many inattentive drivers!

Thank God they didn't make that one the standard signal. The digital bells on the one about 2 blocks from here is loud enough to hear in my yard. I think something like that would be a repeated victim of sabotage.

 

Without the air raid horn (or with one that has an off switch) , it is a very cool sign. I wonder if Miller could sell enough of them to make it worth their while? I'm thinking a Plasticville signal bridge would be close enough for the gantry.

 

That would look really sharp on a Halloween themed layout (as said before) and would probably also fit in well protecting a military train track. Thanks for sharing it.

BTW, do you suppose this sign at the crossing in this incident would have made any difference??
