I just purchased my new Lionel Southern Pacific Crane car from TrainWorld the other day, and it turned out great as far as quality control. The instructions say that the throttle wheel rotates the crane, but instead of that, pressing "2" on the LEGACY remote and using the Boost/Brake lever rotates it really fast. The "2" key is supposed to lower the big hook, but it doesn't in this case. I don't know what I could be doing wrong, but please let me know how I can fix this.

I have that SP crane. The only thought I have is to be sure the program switch is in run mode. Do you have the boom car also? Wish I had more for you, but it seems you have the proper instructions. I did assign another ID number.
The Run/Program switch isn't labeled, it's still the same effects. Otherwise, I'll have to send it back.
I guess the only other thing to do is return it to TrainWorld.
I ahve this crane and the related boom car. It/they work fine under the latest version of Legacy installed in my CAB2 and base station. Which version of Legacy are you running? Mine has a special info setting for the Legacy crane.
Otherwise I do not recognise the commands that you are entering to get the crane to turn. Do you have icons on your CAB2 keypad as per the manual’s illustrations?
Somehow pressing the "2" key for the main hook controls the movement of the whole crane. When I use the Boost/Brake lever, the crane rotates really fast. The main big hook doesn't lower at all.
I have one. Seems to me that I have to hit the AUX key before hitting others. I am not at home right now, but will double-check when I get back.
Theres no way it should be doing that. What happens when you turn the throttle knob?
It sounds like it may be wired incorrectly. There are 4 small motors in these cranes, one for each hook, one for the boom, and one for cab rotation. Maybe the motors are plugged into the wrong ports.
I'd return it and have it exchanged/repaired. These cranes are complex and not something you want to fix yourself.
So much for thinking the quality control was good.

Nothing happens when I turn the throttle knob. Although it does make a little noise inside the components.
Return it. Trainworld is pretty good. maybe they have another or will even repair it for you.
You have to make sure the gear is engaged inside the big sliding door.
Edit: Nevermind I see you have rotation just not with the throttle wheel and fast wow!
