My son and I attended the Mustang 50th anniversary show at Charlotte Motor Speedway this past weekend. The show was so big you had to ride a system of trams and buses to get around to the different areas. While on one bus we passed a good size building on the back side of the speedway. Out front of the building was a large brick sign of just the traditional Lionel logo. This is not the same place as the open houses are held, that's on the other side of I-85. Just wondering if anyone knows what this is??? Seeing Lionel have such a large presence in Charlotte is unusual. Thx

Considering Lionel's other business is Diecast cars, it doesn't seem all that unusual.

Hmmm...that is confusing. The only Lionel building I am aware of is the building where the LCCA Red Carpet events have been held. That building is behind the speedway on Performance Drive. It houses their offices and is their distribution center.

Could it be where repair is moving to??? The building, back in my NASCAR licensing days, was the building that housed DE Sr licensing division.
BTW....we got to the 'parade' shown in the photos too late...they cut it off at 900 cars. After the line up they went for a parade ride! 1995 Bullet, 68 coupe and 66 2+2 here....and maybe a '14 soon!
Here's one identical to the graduation gift I treated myself to shorty before graduating from Ohio State in 1965. It "followed" me into the Army up until the time, a few short months later, when I was sent to Korea.

Restoring a 1966 coupe. Body is done, 289 should be back from the machine shop this week. Amazing that my finished engine will be less than a big boy, and have 300 hp. Hobbies, what would we do without them?
Marianne and I have a 1966 yellow Mustang coupe with a black interior - 6 cylinder automatic with 22,000 original miles. Still smells new. My dad bought it for my mom on Valentines' Day 1966. It has been in the family ever since.
Wow. 22k miles... or just 9 months of day-to-day driving for me. My dad traded in his 66 Wimbledon White coupe for $300 on a new Ford. It was just an old car to him.
I would have given my left arm to be there. These are the Mustang my Grandpa and I have. Both 65's with deluxe interior. The convertible is a 289, 2 barrel, with an automatic. The Fastback is a GT, 289 4 barrel, 4 speed trans.

My son and I am doing a ground up resto on my high school 66 2+2 270 hp. Funny thing is the cars cost about the same as trains.....but I can fix ANYTHING on a Mustang...not so with some trains!!!

Kinda makes sense as that was the main business the prior tenant was involved in. Maybe it came as part of Lionel's die cast car biz buyout.
As long as we're posting pictures... '65 coupe, 200 straight six & cruise-o-matic. It's exactly the car I wanted, and the one Mustang collectors ignore, which worked out perfectly for me.
Dare to be different!!!! Same reason I own a 68 coupe with 200 cid and a BENCH seat....how many have you seen! Paint has failed...but fixed this summer!

I only owned one. 64 1/2 convertible. 260 automatic with air conditioning. I really wish I still had it but I had a car, apartment and girlfriend and could only afford 2 The girlfriend and apartment went REALLY well together. So...............
