Say I picked up a box of junk stuff from a friend and found this wooden cylinder lightbulb holder. It says lionel corp.on it.I was wondering if anybody has ever seen one of these. Is it prewar, postwar.
It is prewar from the late 1920's, 30's. It may be packaging from separate sale lamps or packaged with a 58, 59 lamppost. Later versions of the teardrop bulb, (if original to the wooden container) were packaged in small cardboard boxes.
The later versions of the bulb, which came in individual cardboard boxes are a slightly different shape, and have a different frosting. Todays replacement have a different finish than either.
Some folks think those bulbs are Christmas tree bulbs. They are not. Christmas tree bulbs have a different shaped glass.
Once in a while the specialty bulbs that were custom made for Lionel show up in bulb manufacture's packing.
