Lionel TankTrain & Ethanol Tank Cars are out

Wow, Paul... between all these goodies here PLUS the CN Piggyback set and tractor-trailers, your checkbook just got slammed!!!  After such a complete drought of Lionel shipping rolling stock, talk about poor timing!!!

Thanks for posting.  Tankers look great.  Picking my procor three-pack up from Nassau Hobby first thing this Saturday!!  Can't wait to see them.

 

I bought a few of Atlas' new Trinity 25,500 gallon tankers (which are incredible btw).  I'm interested to see how the ethanol cars compare to them.

 It would be cool to see a pick of the Atlas next to the Lionel. I might have to get both.

The Atlas cars will be tough to beat in my humble opinion. They are incredible.

David, I had told my wife a few days ago that I have decided to sell some of my trains. I knew that these trains were coming yesterday and yesterday I had doctors appointment and she went with me. When we got home there was this large pile of boxes on the front porch. After I got the boxes in the house she asked me "I thought that you were not buying any more" my answer was "I told you that I was going to be selling some of my trains, but these trains were suppose to be here last year"

 

Yeah! It did shock me that all of these were coming at once, 70 lbs worth. Luckily my pre-ordered list is now not too long. That's one reason that I have decided to thin down my collection I have run out of storage locations.

 

I did get a email from Nicholas Smith that they are selling this set for $669.

LOL!!!  I'm pretty certain that exact same scenario played out more than a few times yesterday throughout the country!!!    You were not alone.

Did I hear a compressor turning on in that Lionel's soundset after the second horn blast? Wow!

I just got blasted after several boxes showed up. Then these show up? Sheesh. I did try to explain that they were ordered a long time ago.

I doubt it, but, was wondering if Lionel provided any way to install Kadee couplers on those 30K gallon tank cars?

 I didn't even look. I'm betting U that there isn't!

There is a TankTrain 3-Pack also available.

 

It lists EDT or End-of-train device as a feature.

 

Is the EDT a real and operating feature of the 3-Pack?

very impress by Atlas on tank cars, I buy some last year and I love those.  Looks like Lionel do a good job on the last tank cars.  They are on my tank cars want list.

Unfortunately yes. I have the previous 2 Orange/White 3 packs and they both come with this end car. There is no on/off switch for the EOT so it's awkward to assemble a train with eot's operating midtrain.

 

 

Thank you. I have two Black GATX TankTrain intermediate tank cars with no End of Train device. A 3-Pack would work well with those 2 tank cars.

That would mean that I would have to buy the Southern Pacific SD40T-2 set to get the matching TankTrain cars and the end of train device.

Does anyone have pics of the Cibro cars?  Are they black?  The catalog pic is hard to tell.  I got the TankTrain 3 pack and CN 2 pack and these cars are phenomenal - wondering if i should grab the cibro 2 pack.

I was railfanning today and it made me think of something...if you want to run your tanktrain cars prototypically, don't forget a buffer car after the engines. I most typically see boxcars, some modified for buffer service only, but have also seen hoppers and even covered coil cars.

Canadian National runs the GATX TankTrain tank cars in the middle of regular freight trains.
