Last year, I purchased a Lionel C&O F19 Pacific 4-6-2 locomotive (item 6-11108) from a fellow forum member.  It has worked flawlessly until last night when it took off in forward as soon as power was applied.  I checked everything I could think of but it still happens.  I tried reprograming the ID but it Took off even with the Run/program switch in program.  Tried running it slow and then address it with remote,  the bell and whistle buttons worked and the brake made the braking sounds but did not affect the speed of the engine nor did the direction button have any results.   I thought that maybe it was running in conventional but cycling the power off and on did not change directions

I would appreciate any thought as to where to go from here.

Thanks,

Don

Sounds like the broken magnet ring problem. That also takes out the Halls Effect sensor. Easiest fix is a new motor assembly.

First off, let's be more exact about the symptoms.

If it takes off as soon as power is applied and before you touch the remote, it's not the Odyssey flywheel magnets.  That is more likely to be an issue with the antenna and/or R2LC.  It can also be a shorted FET on the DCDS.

If it happens to be the magnet, you can just replace the magnet ring for $1.50, it's easy with that locomotive.
