I just bought a like new 681 turbine with the 2671W tender. This is my first Postwar locomotive and I am curious as to what maintenance turbines usually require.

Great purchase. I have had several turbines and they were all tanks. Easy to work on as well.
I short..Lubrication. Be careful not to get any oil on the (motor)brushes or wheel surfaces. There are several lubrication points. Perhaps you can find a copy of a PW 681 Instruction sheet online.As mentioned above-easy to work on!
Couple of things I can think of (I have a 671). Lubrication, wheels and the rollers need a tiny drop of oil once in a while, the worm drive mechanism under the pullmor motor needs regreasing, though that usually is something you do once every couple of years. If you use smoke pellets in the smoke unit, you will probably have to clean that out from time to time. You can also spray the e-unit with tuner cleaner. Contact cleaner can work, but tuner cleaner also has a lubricant in it that can help keep the solenoid from sticking.
Open her up. you will see a shiny metal cover. Remove it and clean out the old grease. Relube and then oil the axles and side rod screws. There is also a small hole in the motor casing you will see it. Put a couple drops of oil in there too.
Do not overlook the the whistle motor. It also needs lubrication and inspection of the brushes and commutator.

That hole is intended for lubricant(grease). I use a syringe filled with Lucas Red 'N' Tacky #2 and inject while running until it just starts coming out both ends.
