Hey everyone,

Another quickie from me but, there is something that has been on my mind since the day the Vision Line Challengers were announced. In The Catalog, it was stated that the Union Pacific versions would have removable smoke deflectors. I was wondering if this is true, and if it is, does anyone have photographic evidence? I don't think I have ever seen a picture or video of them without them.

Thanks.

I assume you are talking about the models when you state "I have ever seen a picture or video of them without them." For what it's worth, the REAL UP Challengers, that were coal burners generally did NOT have the "smoke deflectors" (properly named 'Wind Wings' on the Union Pacific). Only the oil burning Challengers assigned to passenger service had the "Wind Wings".

I took mine off and replaced the running board with ones from a Clinchfield Challenger. To remove the smoke deflectors you have to take off the shell. To me they look a lot better without them.

Now that looks sharp! Kinda dumb that you have to remove the shell to get the Smoke Deflectors off. What's the reason you replaced the running boards with the Clinchfield ones?
