Does anyone have any sales insight as to how Lionel sales are compared to Williams sales in 2017 and as we head into the holidays?

And how do those sales compare to what is changing hands on the secondary market?
Would be next to impossible to ascertain that information from either company as I believe they're both privately held and don't release sales figures. I could be wrong though.

Nothing positive would happen for either to post sales records. I can't think of a hobby based company that does.
Nobody that is privately held is going to release their sales numbers and why should they, it's nobody's business.

Well, for starters, Williams isn't in business anymore. And to get an apples to apples comparison would require a numbers breakout of divisions of Bachmann. In any case, as stated above, no public information is available, so there will absolutely no way for anyone to know the answer to the OP's question. It is clear from other information released in the past, however, that Lionel is the leading manufacturer of O gauge trains, by a fairly significant margin.
