Title says it all.  I think it's Lionel's first shipping update of the year (since the 12/31/2012 update).  But for a few months now, you can't tell what has shipped anymore... unless you've been tracking certain items and they magically disappear from the list.    There's gotta be a better way to communicate what items have shipped.  My brain just can't handle this "negative space" way of thinking.

Anyway... one item I have been tracking is the now "infamous" final partial shipment of #6-11343, the UP 4-12-2 in classic old livery.  It's been removed from the latest updated list, so hopefully that means these jewels are finally en-route to dealers again!!!  Time will tell.  Should be getting a call any day now!

Anyone else waiting for something special in January/February?

Happy to report that I received a call this morning that the second "partial" shipment of the UP 4-12-2 #9000 in classic old livery did arrive at the train store, and mine will be on its way early this week.

I can't recall the last time Lionel had a "split shipment" like this for a locomotive, and I'm not sure why it happened this time.  If I'm not mistaken, I think the first shipment of these locomotives hit the streets around April/May 2012... then I heard a rumor in mid-Summer that another shipment was in the works, so I jumped on it.  But I was seriously beginning to doubt its existence given the number of times this partial shipment slipped on the shipping schedule last year.

It will be interesting to see the date on the SKU label of the shipping carton.  I'm curious if the units from this shipment were actually sourced from another manufacturing run, or if these somehow just got caught up in China and are only now arriving here in the States.  I'm leaning toward the former, but I wonder what the real story is.

Looking forward to this jewel.

I'm with you on those items Nicole.  The Milwaukee Road cars have gotta be pushing a record...  since they were catalog'd back in 2010.

The CZ cars also bear watching closely 'cause one of the 2-packs is still showing Jan 2013, while the other 2-pack and 4-pack show May 2013.  And given that we're here in February now... and the CBQ 2-pack is still on the shipping list with a Jan 2013 date, I guess they didn't ship in Jan afterall... which doesn't surprise me, 'cause I was always skeptical that one part of the set would ship so much earlier than the others.  I'm thinking at this point that everything will arrive around mid-year!  Let's hope.

P.S.  Wouldn't it be GREAT if Lionel would catalog StationSound diners for these sets in 2013 Volume 1 with a delivery that coincides with the other cars in the set???

Following-up as promised regarding the UP 4-12-2 #9000, which arrived today from SideTrack Hobbies.  The outer shipping carton's SKU label did, as suspected, have a later date of 8/27/2012 on it.  So it would appear these locomotives were produced in a second, subsequent production run to the earlier locomotives that were shipped in the April/May 2012 timeframe.  Took a while for the rumor to turn into reality, but it looks to be very much worth the wait -- a VERY stunning locomotive done up in the old livery paint scheme with whitewall driver and running board trim on the locomotive.  Superb job, Lionel.

Just some trivia for those who may be interested.
