This is a nice gesture by Lionel to the veterans community.

During my twenty years in the Air Force, I encountered places when military members and their families were not viewed as valuable customers.  For example, K-Mart in San Bernardino, California, in the early to mid 1980s would not accept checks from military families because we were considered "transients".  Some companies still don't get it.  A few years ago, Marriott stopped giving a "military discount" to military retirees.  (I even contacted their CEO to complain, but to no avail.)  I got the message, my business was not valuable so I took my business elsewhere.  (I used to be "gold" member of their rewards program.  Do the math to figure out how much that policy cost them just in my case alone.)

True. However, be aware they can assert a subrogation right of recovery against the veteran's estate when he/she dies, for reimbursement for all expenses. There was a recent case here in PA where they demanded and received $300,000, causing the veteran's estate to become bankrupt.

Whoaaaa!!!!! I did not know this, I live in Pa. Thanks for the info.

Rich, I know this is some what off.

I just finished going through all the steps for my VA card. I will suggest strongly that if you served in Vietnam between January 9, 1962 and May 7, 1975 that you participate in the Department of Veterans Affairs Agent Orange Health Registry (AOR) Program. It's no cost. If you wish further information check it out the web or feel free to e-mail me.

Soo Nut, you're right, times have changed in this area for the better.  I went in the service in 1983 and served during Reagan-Bush-Clinton when (most) Americans started coming to their senses about how to treat its men and women in uniform.

You guys that went (I'm guessing) to Vietnam deserve better.  Thank you for your service!  There are lots of us out here that appreciate your sacrifices!

raising4daughters,

Thank you sir very much I am one of those Viet Nam Vets, I do use Lowes often and have used the 10% discount quite a bit.  Loren has the right idea, most of us have the VA identification card and they accept it as positive proof.  If you are a military veteran support Lowes business, they support us, they put their money where their mouth is, and their employess even ask me if I was a Vet.  I saved over a $100.00 that day as we outfitted my log cabin in Potter/Tioga with many different purchases, including two Gas fire places.  Glad to see Lionel doing something for the Vets also.  I know the SeaBees ran a Lionel Train on Guadacanal during WWII,

I know cause I own that Lionel Train.
