Lionel N&W Y6B 6-82340

This locomotive started making a funny grinding, rough sound last time I ran it. Sounded like either gear(s) or the drive shaft or joints. Took it apart today for first time since new. The drive motor mount plate is missing the 2 screws that hold it in place. I'll have to check the track work for them. How do I find out what thread and length they are?

2) Figured go ahead and check the smoke unit and found something different than what I'm used to with the wick. Is this some new style wick or just regular Lionel # 691SMKP008 compacted with more material than usual?

Ok...guessing again, head size? I've seen small and large heads on their screws.

I stared at the parts fiche but couldn't figure out which ones specifically were for the bracket. Were they with the bracket in the motor fiche?

Ok so I tried to pin point the grinding noise issue to the source. Ran the locomotive only with the shell off in both directions as well as left and right turns. I could feel a harsh vibration on the motor can, the noise was intermittent. Took the motor back out and ran on a test track. The noise is not nearly as pronounced in this video running the motor only but I'm sure the drive train amplified it as well as extra stress on the motor when all is assembled.

Thoughts?

Ah very good. I see the bracket is on the motor and I didn't see it because of the way the motor is turned...except on the motor only picture.

Worn or loose bearing? Gravity changes the noise.
