Lionel ZW-L Volt & Amp Meters

They may well be just the meter movements, I doubt the ammeter actually handles 10 amps of current without an external shunt, for instance.  Also, my guess is they will be DC meters and be fed the generated reading from the electronics.

You'll be better off picking up stand-alone meters.

John, you might be right, never thought about that.

I found these at a garage sale sitting in a box and the price was worth taking a chance that they would work.

So on the ZW-L, there must be some circuit that converts AC to DC.?

Maybe these would be better used on an HO layout, or 2 rails?

I really suspect they aren't directly useful for much without some up-front circuitry.  Of course, since they were sitting in a garage sale, it's also quite possible they don't work.

Truthfully, if you connected these to any significant voltage without current limiting, they may not work now, even if they were good!

   IMHO you are just waisting your time messing with this Amp meter set up, have fun if you like.

There are numerous analog ac volt and amp meters on the bay. Look for 15 ac amp and 25 ac volt. Prices are something like 10 to 15 $.
