Just curious - has Lionel shipped out the matching heavyweight passenger car sets for their new Southern Crescent, Blue Comet, and Alton Limited Pacific's?

I may be after the Crescent or Alton locomotive, and would like to get either with the matching passenger set. I checked Lionel's website, and they're no longer in the shipping schedule, but I haven't seen any photos of them for sale or them actually on dealer shelves in the stores I've gone to.

Assuming Lionel followed suit with how they issued the new Blue Comet cars, I'd say the new production run will match but have new names for the Crescent and Alton 4-packs.

For those who may be interested... these are the names from the 2002 Blue Comet:

baggage car:  Barnard

coach1:  Faye

coach2:  Westphal

observation: Tempel

The #6-39082 two-pack included another coach Tuttle and a combine Halley.  And the #6-15406 StationSounds Diner was named Gicobini.

I don't plan on purchasing the new Blue Comet 4-pack at this time, so I didn't catch the names on the cars I saw the other day in the store.  But I know they were different from the cars released in 2002.

Well I just took the plunge and ordered the Crescent cars. I guess we'll see when they get here, if they have different names then the original.

At least there is a new baggage car... even though in the original 1:1 consist there was just an RPO and and combine, no baggage.

But, if the cars do have new names, I can have a pretty prototypical consist, given the original 7 cars, plus the new 3 (the new observation will obviously not be used).

For those Southern Crescent enthusiasts who have neither a loco nor cars yet, you may want to keep an eye out for MTH's new set due out VERY soon... comes with a premier PS-4 Southern steamer (PS/3) along with 4 heavyweight passenger cars -- all for an MSRP of $999.99.  Product number is 20-3463-1.  MTH has some great deals when they package locos along with freight/passenger cars as premier sets.

According to the MTH Facebook page, I think they've received an early sample of the loco already... with the sets due out in Feb 2013.  Lots of nice photos on the Facebook page.

Nice to see MTH delivering American Steam again.
