I have a 6-12722 diner and it has stopped smoking. How do I tell if it's smoke generator or the resistor that's bad and are either replaceable? If either part is replaceable where can I buy them?

I will have to look in my schematic book from Greenberg's when I get home. I am sure you can find the replacement parts from many of the parts dealers.
Now this might be a silly question, but did you add smoke fluid? Sometimes blowing down the stack to get rid of any clogs of air bubbles, debris, etc works.
Let us know, and I will get you the part numbers when I get home.
I have many Lionel (and MTH) accessories and this simple diner proved to be the most troublesome. The smoke unit is a Seuthe type. It requires a light oil type liquid and kind of wafts out. After replacing units several times with parts from Lionel and from Seuthe at about $30 bucks a pop, and even replacing the whole diner, I gave up. My solution was to purchase a fan-driven Lionel smoke unit from Boxcar Bill here on the Forum. I mounted it in the diner, hooked it to a 12 v source, and the smoke now works fine.
Good Luck.
