Happy New year everyone,

I wonder if anyone can help with my problem. Thanks

I was running the above today with its usual load of 21 PFE Reefers when it started to hesitate and jerk. It made it round to where i was and I thought "derailment" - but no and nothing tripped out.

I decided to inspect the engine and removed the boiler - nothing obvious - re seated the radio board, checked other connections - no broken wires that I can see. Fired it up again and class lights/head light flashed as if intermittent power. Stopped - checked again and then did a full re-set as per manual.

I now have an engine that will run forward with all features from power up but will not reverse. I have full sound whilst in reverse setting but no go

Once you hit the direction button no movement backwards , if you hit it again no movement forwards - it seems that if I power down completely I can regain forward motion but that's all.

While all this is going on all sounds and smoke are fine.

I am running TMCC cab1 - and other TMCC engines on my other track run fine

HELP - any ideas please? - there are no dealers this side of the pond!!

Thanks

MIKE (In England)

I have the same engine but have not experienced the issue you're describing. Some things I would check: Traction tires binding, I've had this happen especially if I over fill the smoke unit  second this engine has 2 motors in it, Do you have any rollers to check if this is happening on both sets of drivers? Another thing to try is resetting the engine by reprogramming it and also check if the same behavior happens when running conventionally.

Quick update - I swapped out the Radio board from another legacy Challenger - made no difference.

Thinking about it all again - Lionel engines are programmed to always start forward - the engine carries out this default action - its only when you hit "direction" that it fails so this tells me it has something to to do with whatever controls the direction change. If you switch main power off it always restarts in forward.

Is it as simple as aboard or component change?

Thanks

MIKE
