Maybe a vessel on the water?
Maybe its this guy: ( Note the term "runby" in the title, these guys take this serious. He even knows the correct grade crossing sequence)
Blowing 130psi air pressure through ANY horn, doesn't really make it "sound like a train". An air horn is an air horn, no mater what it is mounted on.
The guys has a tiu and is using DCS Doppler. just kidding. It takes all kinds I guess. I'm not sure he would want to use it on a super highway, There's enough carnage already especially in the winter . Imagine that thing going off right beside you.
I believe Cadillac has a neat sounding horn similar to a diesel. Don't know what year though .
PennsyE8:
You most likely heard activity in or around 65th Street Yard in Bay Ridge. New York New Jersey Rail operates the last remaining car float service in the area and interchanges with New York & Atlantic at that location. I've attached a photo of one of NYA's former LIRR MP15AC units. You can see it is equipped with a K5LA horn. I hope this helps.
