I have an MTH standard gauge tinplate locomotive that I'm having trouble finding the exact model of.  Nothing quite matches it on the website.  I'm sure someone here will be able to ID it in a flash.

It's the NYC 400E Lionel Tinplate black crackle finish with brass trim, and has PS/1.  I find what looks like it, but none that have PS/1.  The object of the exercise is I need the brass gear that mates with the motor worm gear, this one has been stripped due to lack of lubrication it appears.   I'm presuming all of the similar models probably share the same drivetrain, but maybe not. I hate to order the part to find out it's not common.

A part number for this gear would be ideal.

Harry, your dad handed me the locomotive, and the motor, I assumed if he had the gear I'd have gotten that too.  I'll give him a call.

Marty, I'll reach out to Chris and maybe he has some insight.  For all of these locomotives on the MTH site, I'm surprised they don't have the one with PS/1 listed.  Since they want an actual product number on the parts order site, I wanted to get the right product number.

These things are easy to repair, not so easy to find the parts.

Marty, that's my "fall-back" position.   I wanted to have an actual product number, but this locomotive with PS/1 seems to be MIA on the website.  I had to go back and look at the boards again to make sure I wasn't seeing things, but it really is PS/1.   The 10-1058 does look like the same one just in different paint and trim, so it's a good bet.

It's really odd they have a parts breakdown, but they don't show the parts for the gearbox, probably the ones that take the most abuse.

John, I have been thru this with MTH on several tinplate both standard and O.  The type of motor (build a loco, or the other standard) is more important than the model number.

I would not ZZ-1 this.  Send the picture to Jeff and Deb, or get on the phone.

It sure looks like the one I provided a part number for.  That one WAS NOT a build a Loco motor.   G

That may be it, it doesn't say ProtoSound, but the manual has PS/1 in it.  I talked to MTH and we figured out which gear it is, and I have two on order.  That way we'll have a spare, since the brass gear is the one that gets trashed first.

Incidentally, the ZZ option didn't work anyway!  I used a valid number and described the part, and when I went to add that part to the order it insisted on me searching for a part number!   That's when I just went with the phone call.

Weird, did you use 6 zeros?  It has worked for me.  G

The press gear would be really fun, the shaft goes through the sides of the motor frame.  How in the world would you get it out of there?

Since the order is still sitting there, I added some stuff to it.   I do remember now they mentioned that during the turbo parts order entry session, but I didn't remember until you mentioned it.  We covered a lot of ground in a short time, hard to remember it all.

My other orders were picked up pretty quickly and appeared on the processed side, that's what fooled me.
