Locomotive lights flickering

Does it do it in the same location each time? Normally that's a sign of signal strength issues.

The battery has NOTHING to do with the lights, it's ONLY function is to maintain the sounds on a brief power interruption.  I'd also suggest signal strength as a possible cause.  How big is the layout?

The layout out is 5x8.  
My MTH engines run fine.  
I’m going to run another Tmcc engine and see what happens.  

If only that engine does it, on a 5x8, it's probably not signal strength, more than likely an issue with the locomotive.

Can you post a video? Is there something metal nearby like a tunnel or structure?

Did you ever resolve the flickering issue?  If not, try unplugging the board connectors and re-seating them.

So far everything works on it and no flickering lights.  
I cleaned the track really good. Cleaned the wheels and rollers.  

so far so good.  I’ll keep you posted.

I have a couple of MTH TIUs that need to be updated to the latest software 6.1 I think.  I think I have a remote that needs it also.  
I know I have a few engines needing lighting and electrical repair.

Usually when one of my engine's lights start flickering, it's an issue with dirty track, wheels or pickup roller.  In one case, the screw holding the pickup roller on was loose.  I tightened it and the problem was solved.

I have seen MTH 6-wheel truck passenger cars have a bad ground, I posted a video here of an arc around the spring and called it the MTH Tesla coil. I have also seen Atlas engines with bad ground; first off, if it has four wheel trucks, but if an axle on each truck has rubber tires, you now have only four wheels available to pick up ground at times (maybe going around a curve the pizza cutters would make contact). But also, the engine I had, it had a painted diecast frame and truck frames, and you couldn't count on a good metal to metal contact.

Not sure which engine it is/was, either some Providence and Worchester (sp?) non-EMD non-powered, or a Southern Pacific GP60. I know that GP60 can be a finicky one about how clean the track is. I fixed the first one by running wires from the trucks to the frames, then later sold it. Still have the GP60.

Not saying for gosh sure its a ground problem, just keep an open mind about where the problem could be. A voltmeter can help too, or even a light bulb with wire leads.

I had to take apart a whole fleet of MTH passenger car trucks and clean out the paint around the springs.  They use the springs as part of the conductive path from the wheels, and the dip painted the trucks!
