I have a mth ps3 steam which derailed but it seems to have see shorted before the circuit breaker tripped. Connect the + line to the roller and touch the - to the frame and there's a small spark. Is it the tender motherboard? Disconnect it and no spark. Any ideas? Am I out of luck with MTH?

You have absolutely no info in your profile. How can we recommend a tech who services these locomotives without some basic info.
I have added more profile
Tender boards are not available right now, so if that's where the problem lies, you're out of luck. I just used my last one in a repair the other day.
Since the stuff's made in China anyway doesn't look like anybody's going to pick up the mth parts gauntlet 😞. I guess lot of mth owners are out of luck.
jps32016 - You live in the same state as 'GGG' who's an authorized MTH technician and who - like several other 'techies' on this Forum - is very competent at solving train problems. His email address can be found in his profile on this Forum under the 'GGG' moniker.
Good Luck in resolving your issue!
Thanks for the tip. I have a couple relatively local guys (I'm in Winchester VA) who said they'd take a look but unlikely have something that will work.
I live in Front Royal. Info is on MTH web site.

OK here's my situation. I wonder if I violated the tomb of MTH and incurred the MTH curse. I have a Premier ps2 Mikado, and also a ps3. Within a week the circuit boards of both shorted out in some incredible circumstances. Can anybody handle that?
Not to derail the conversation here, but maybe it would be worth looking at your power distribution and protection. Do you have appropriate TVS Diodes and Breakers/Fuses strategically implemented?
I have a capacitor discharge unit for the NJ switch machines powered by a KW but nothing else other than the MRC transformer and power block (for the TIU) circuit breakers. These mishaps were completely my fault and otherwise everything has worked fine with my other stuff.
