London has traditionally had multiple stub terminals for the different railway lines that radiate from London, dating from pre-nationalization days when there were many different railway companies. Currently, Thameslink is the only cross-town through service handling mainline passenger trains, running north and south. Crossrail will finally provide a through east-west connection for mainline passenger trains.
